I was absent from the Weekly Photo Challenge for a while, sorry!

So, “color” is the theme for the week, right? Well, it’s difficult to not think “flowers” when reading “color”. So here we are!

This pic was taken back in 2011 in the city of Vannes (Brittany). I really love this city, probably because I lived there for a while, and I think its gardens are very beautiful, so I’m happy to share it with you!

Let me introduce you my wonderful Mom! Today is her birthday. Even the sky wanted to celebrate: it snowed the whole day! (Of course, this photo isn’t from today, it was back in Summer 2011!)

Happy Birthday Mom!

This post lacks a bit of flowers and moving comment, I’m sorry! For that, please visit my personal blog here: FancyLittleTalk

Weekly Photo Challenge: Lost in the Details

For this week’s photo challenge, I couldn’t choose only one. In fact, I need the three of them to prove my point, so I decided to post them all.

Those are close-ups of Dolores Umbridge dresses in the Harry Potter movies. As you can see, on each one of them there is a tiny cat accessory. When you watch the movie casualy, you won’t notice them. You won’t pay attention to those very small details but they are still there and that’s what makes the characters real.

When I visited the Harry Potter studios earlier this year I was seriously amazed by the amount of work they put into minor details, all to make everything more believable. I noticed some of them when I watched the movies for the nth time, but most of them just weren’t even shown on film, or only for very quick moments. How amazing!

I have a brand new level of admiration for all the staff who put this movie together. And not just this one. I admire the industry in general. How they create magic with those details. That’s amazing. Truly amazing.

This is my 20th birthday cake. I turned 20, and still cannot believe it. It is an important year, in a few months, I am going to graduate from my University. I have to decide what I’ll do next. A Master, somewhere. Maybe far from home?

Because I turned 20, things have to change, you know? I have to be more reliable. I have to make choices for myself, and stop waiting for things to happen miraculously. Becoming an adult is difficult. I still rely a lot on my mum and I still have a long way to go, but that’s what makes life interesting, right?

It took me quite a long time to decide which photo I would post, as last week for the “Unique” challenge I already decided for my summer house, and it really fit both themes. Because of that, I wondered “is it all right to put the same place twice in a row?”

As a first idea, I wanted to show a photo of my family. I can be home anywhere, if my family is around, so the place truly does not matter. However, it is one of my rules to never show the face of anyone I know on my blog, and therefore I needed a new idea.

It led me naturally to this portal, as it represents the beginning of holidays. Summer is the season where everyone meet in that place, and even if the house is my grand-parents, everyone feels home. Not only us, the family, but also all the friends and relatives we invited there over the years. They often told us how welcome and warm they felt there. We manage to convey that “I’m one of them” feeling to friends… So, I guess, it is not “my” home, but just “home”. Not only for me, not only for my parents, but for plenty of people. Not exactly the conventional sort of home, not the place where you spend all your time, but a place where you can feel home for two or three weeks.

MY PHOTO OF THE DAY – Snow

DSC_1684

This photo is from a few weeks ago, but today again there is a lot of snow. Children love it, right? When there is snow everywhere and they can play outside. It cannot be denied, snow is beautiful when it just started to fall. When everything is pure white. But we are in France. Snow melt very quickly and soon everything is just… dirty and muddy. Not very agreeable.

As much as I love snow during winter holidays, it is seriously bothering me now. Like, why so much? It’s France, not the North Pole! Why so much snow coming out of the blue? I hope it stops soon. It is too cold outside to enjoy a walk and my shoes are always wet whatever what I do. And France obviously is not really prepared for snow. Everytime the landscape turns white everything stops. Like, buses, underground? No way. It is so slow that you have to double your travel time. A nightmare for students who have to travel plenty like me.

Well, I am complaining very much, but I don’t hate snow, you know. I just hate the inconvenience. I hate to have to wake up at 5 in the morning to be on time. I hate to have to walk for half an hour in the dark (as the sun did not even come out just yet) because there is no bus. So, basically, I had like the temperatures to rise a tiny bit now.

Is it snowing in your countries too?

MY PHOTO OF THE DAY – Exams

050

This photo was taken two years and a half ago already, when I passed my High School final exams. I remember the day fairly well, it was my Spanish oral and with my friend we were so worried to be late that we arrived two hours early…

I was nervous, but not as much as I thought I would be. In January, I had my thrid year January exams, and it was a lot worse. I suppose that now, I understand better the importance of those exams. In France everything is graded, and judged. I was never a hard-worker. I used to think “I have time” and wait the last minute to do things. This year for the first time I truly care about my studies. It is somewhat new to me and the more I care the more I feel nervous. I had my results yesterday, and they were not as good as I hoped. Two years ago, I would not have cared. I would have said “it’s fine, I didn’t study hard anyway”. But now that I actually did, those grades hurt me. I wonder “What did I mess up?” “Why can’t I do better when I studied so hard?”. Those are questions I ask myself, but I cannot answer. Next time, I will make sure to study even harder so my grades will be better, I hope.

I suppose I am not the only one here struggling with exams and results, so I wish you all to be successful!

It is my first time participating to the Photo Challenge, but when I read the theme I immediately knew what I was going to post. This is a photo of my Summer House, a very unique place to me as I spent all my holidays there surrounded by my beloved family.

It is a very simple photo, isn’t it? I like it this way. I have moved a lot and this place was still there, the same as ever. It never changes. My parents, my grand-parents spent their summers there too. I find it truly amazing, as a link between generations that never met but are still connected.
